We were back in Manhattan for three days in mid-June.
This time we decided to get a ‘Hop-On-Hop-Off’ bus pass for 48 hours and spend less time on our feet. We arrived at the Port Authority Bus Terminal too early to check into our hotel, so we went to buy our pass and kill a couple of hours on the bus route that winds from near Times Square and eventually to East 51st street, near our hotel (and then back to where it started.) It’s called the Downtown/Midtown route – or something like that. We hopped off near the hotel.
These photos were taken from the top of the double-decker bus.
More on the Flatiron Building here.
I would not recommend this particular bus route on a hot day (30 C, 85 F) in the blazing sun. The first part, down to Battery Park, was okay, but the route heading uptown along 1st avenue was boring and the traffic was heavy.
Taking a cue from Picnic at the Cathedral, my favourite travel blog:
**where we stayed in Manhattan: Pod 51. Recommended: definitely, for someone on a budget
**how we got there: Martz Trailways commuter bus from East Stroudburg/ Delaware Water Gap. Also recommended.
I have lots of photos from this visit and from our three previous trips into New York City, so will continue to post Manhattan Mondays until I run out.
