Afloat

Shellfishery on the Vernon River.

Shellfisher on the Vernon River.

I live on an Island (THE Island, Prince Edward Island) on a tidal river.  There is only one kind of ‘afloat” here!

This photo was a taken in early November 2009. I’ve never seen this boat since!

For more responses, some of them aerial, to this week’s WordPress photo challenge, “Afloat” look here.

  1. Wow. What a boat. I would love to know all about it.

It is a flat-bottomed mussel-fishing, oyster-fishing boat. The owner lives upriver and has his own little wharf; a number of other shellfishers use the wharf on the other side of the river on the other side of the road from us, but their boats aren’t nearly so shiny. They use the boats to set spat for mussels and socks for oysters, check on their lines and haul the catch in – usually in the fall.

Love the bronze burnished effect on the water!
