I posted the photo above for the Photo Challenge last week on the rule of thirds. I’m reposting because it’s my best redpoll photo.

The first time I ever saw a redpoll, it was raining. The red spot on the top of the head was glistening, and I thought the bird was bleeding!  Redpolls are one of my favourite birds, partly because of the colouring, partly because they only come around when the weather is horrid (i.e. very cold or stormy or both) and partly because it’s usually outnumbered 20:1 by goldfinches or pine siskins.
