Chopsticks and Hot Pot

Chongqing Guotai (Cathay) Arts Center, located in Chongqing municipality, was designed to resemble chopsticks and a hotpot.

I saw this structure through the bus window after our visit to the Hall of the People. When I asked about it, the tour guide didn’t know what I was talking about. So, shortly after we were dropped off in an area of high-end stores, I circled around to get back to this building.

We couldn't get far enough away from the building to see what the overall concept was. So the sign was a great help.

Beautiful building.

Beautiful building.

Regrettably, the plaza around the building was not finished and certainly does not look like the artists’ concept drawings in the first link at the top of this post.

The black ends.

The black ends.

The red ends. The end of each chopstick looked like a chop.

In the comments, can anyone tell me what the black and red Chinese characters say?

We were there for less than a day; the down side of being with a tour. I had wanted to understand the city a bit more because of having read Simon Winchester’s book, “The Man who Loved China”

not many can say they have been there. it’s a very unique city. the history, the scale of the building taking place, the people, the steps, the smell of hot pot…

my brother was working there for 3 years hence my 3 visits, whilst i was living in bangkok.
